The gift of wellbeing……….
Sometimes in life, we just need to stop and give our mind and body a well-deserved break.
Reflexology can help with:
What is Reflexology and the benefits?
Reflexology is based on the ancient art of touch therapy on the soles of the hands or feet, whereby the therapist uses their hands, fingers and knuckles to apply pressure to the feet or hands, using a specialised massage technique.
It is based on the ancient theory that different points on the feet and legs correspond to different areas on the body. By working through the feet you treat the whole body creating a sense of wellbeing and calm, by realigning the natural flow of Qi (life's energy).
The Chinese are said to have used an early form of reflexology more than 5,000 years ago and it has also been discovered in Egyptian tomb artwork. The modern form of reflexology that is mainly practised today was developed by Eunice D.Ingham in the 1930’s.
By applying pressure to the designated areas in the feet or hands, you are able to relieve congestion caused by stress or illness. Reflexology can help with a range of conditions such as headaches, stress, premenstrual syndrome, fertility and is now starting to be used within the field of oncology to help those living with cancer. Reflexology is an alternative therapy and cannot cure a condition, only aid the body in balancing itself and finding harmony.
What to Expect?
A Reflexology session will last around an hour and it will begin with a full consultation about your medical history and what you wish to gain from having reflexology. You will then lay back on a reclining chair or massage couch(depending on your comfort), your feet will be cleansed and the treatment will begin.
Reflexology should not be painful but some areas may feel more tender when pressure is applied. This usually corresponds with an area that has a build up of congestion and with gentle pressure should begin to ease. In some cases a course of treatments is recommended to be able to gain the full effects of the treatment, but a full treatment plan is completed after the session and discussed with you.
After the treatment, a client usually feels very calm, relaxed and sleepy. Most clients report that they have improved sleep, better moods and increased energy after an initial treatment. To gain maximum benefit from the reflexology treatment, it is advised that you drink plenty of water and avoid alcohol and caffeine in the hours immediately after your treatment.
